Holy Women Making History

Kathleen Sprows Cummings

(More from this Author)

The stories of women have been largely ignored by most Church historians and easily accessible records of their accomplishments are rare. But communities of women religious have always kept extensive archives, and as more of their members were able to obtain academic training in the discipline of history, these archives were used to tell the stories of their impact on the Church. These are the “holy women making history,” history told from the viewpoint of women rather than men.

Prof. Kathleen Sprows Cummings, PhD, is Rev. John A. O'Brien Collegiate Professor of American Studies and History at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana.
