Who Do I Say That I Am?
In Search of the True Self
In a culture filled with noise, distraction, and competing messages about who we should be, the question of the true self has never been more urgent.
In Who Do I Say That I Am?, Jean Flannelly, SC, invites readers into a contemplative exploration of identity, conversion, and spiritual maturity. Drawing on psychodynamic and developmental psychology, Christian theology, and the wisdom of the spiritual tradition, she reflects on the deep human questions that shape every life: Who am I? Why do I exist? And where is God calling me?
Rather than offering quick answers or easy formulas, Flannelly provides thoughtful signposts for the inner journey. She helps readers distinguish between ego and self, psychological insight and spiritual growth, false images and deeper truth. With clarity, warmth, and pastoral wisdom, she shows how self-knowledge, silence, humility, and discernment can lead us toward greater freedom, authenticity, and communion with God and others.
Written for spiritual seekers, spiritual directors, pastoral counselors, and all who hunger to make deeper sense of their lives, this book is an invitation to listen more carefully, live more honestly, and discover the true identity already being called forth by God.
Jean Flannelly, SC, is a clinical psychologist, theologian, and spiritual director.
