Massimo Faggioli

Masimo Faggioli is professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, Villanova University.

He is a leading authority on the history and administrative inner workings of the Catholic Church with specific expertise in the papacy, Vatican II, the Roman Curia, liturgical reform, and new Catholic movements. Frequently featured in national and international media, Faggioli can comment on a diversity of theological, religious, and Church-related issues ranging from the historical to the contemporary.

He is a contributing editor in Commonweal magazine and recipient of the “Jerome Award” (2017) of the Catholic Library Association, awarded in recognition of outstanding contribution and commitment to excellence in scholarship. A prolific author, his books and essays have been published in Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia.

Theologian, New York Times columnist, to debate Pope Francis legacy

NEW YORK – Two prominent Catholics, Massimo Faggioli, Professor of Theology at Villanova University, and Ross Douthat, a New York Times op-ed columnist, will debate the legacy of Pope Francis and his controversial pontificate on Wednesday evening, January 31, 2018.

The discussion, which comes as Francis is set to mark the fifth anniversary of his election in March, will take place from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus in New York City.
